Phantom Islands with Maya Uppal
In this workshop we will use creative writing to engage with cultural legends of exploration, migration and imaginary islands. By examining the phantom places found in myths and stories we will step into the history of queer havens and begin to imagine what queer paradise could look like as an isolated place.
About Maya
Maya is a writer and creative facilitator whose practice explores the emotional ties between objects, archives and marginalised people by re-imagining stories of imperial history through different temporal lenses. They have facilitated workshops for Glasgow Zine Library and Glasgow Museums and recently programmed the event ‘Far Away From Our Native Halo’ , a poetry night for writers of colour held in Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. Their writing can be found in SPAM, MUCK, Mellom Press, David Dale Gallery and Gutter Magazine.
